Survey to assess current and future greenspace provision

Following on from APSE’s recent State of the Market survey for Parks and Greenspaces 2024, several respondents stated that they had sold areas of greenspaces.

Considering the threat to the UK’s greenspaces from development and housebuilding, together with the increasing number of local authorities facing Section 114 Notices, APSE is carrying out a short survey on the future likelihood of other local authorities considering selling off parks and greenspaces to meet housing targets, provide land for economic development and selling land as a means to resolving corporate budget challenges

In carrying out the survey, APSE is keen to assess whether the loss of parks and greenspaces is a real and current threat or whether it is happening only on rare occasions.

Any responses to the survey will be treated with complete anonymity and no officer or local authority will be identified.

The findings will be shared with respondents and the wider APSE network once the results have been analysed.
