APL and WorldSkills UK launch 2025 national landscaping competition

The Association of Professional Landscapers (APL) and WorldSkills UK have announced the launch of the 2025 national landscaping competition, to provide a platform for the industry’s brightest apprentices and learners to showcase their skills on a national stage.

Entry is open from 3 March, and employers and training providers in the landscaping sector are invited to enter their rising talent into the prestigious WorldSkills UK Competitions.

Designed to align with international industry standards, these competitions help young professionals develop the skills, confidence, and experience needed to excel in their careers.

With over 40 skill areas represented, the WorldSkills UK Competitions feature regional qualifiers and specialist training, leading up to the highly anticipated national finals. This year, the finals will take place in November at venues across South Wales, where competitors will demonstrate their expertise under real-world conditions.

Phil Tremayne, General Manager of the APL, said: “The APL is committed to nurturing the next generation of skilled landscapers by providing them with opportunities to strengthen and showcase their talents. The WorldSkills UK Competitions are a brilliant platform for apprentices and learners to gain hands on experience, learn new skills, and demonstrate their abilities at the highest level. We encourage all employers and training providers to take part”

Ben Blackledge, Chief Executive, WorldSkills UK said: “Registering apprentices and learners for WorldSkills UK Competitions is an exciting opportunity to showcase their potential, inspire excellence and equip them with the skills needed to thrive in a competitive workforce. By entering, employers and training organisations are investing in both the individuals and the success of their organisation.”

Participants from this year’s competitions could be selected by WorldSkills UK to join its training and development programme for WorldSkills Aichi (Japan) 2028.

Entry to the WorldSkills UK Competitions is open from 3 -28 March 2025. To register apprentices and access the free resources visit worldskillsuk.org
