The Grounds Management Association (GMA) has launched #GroundsWeek 2025 with a new video celebrating the dedication of grounds people across the UK.
Throughout the country, grounds teams are responsible for maintaining the sports pitches, parks, and outdoor spaces that millions of people rely on – whether for football, cricket, rugby, tennis, or general recreation.
#GroundsWeek, which runs from 17–23 March, highlights the critical role of both professional and volunteer grounds people in delivering high-quality playing surfaces and well-maintained green spaces – work that often goes unnoticed by those outside the industry.
In the new video, filmed at a grassroots sports club in Derbyshire, the groundsperson is seen carrying out an essential grounds management task, while the crowd cheers him on.

The club operates 14 teams with over 330 players, spanning multiple age groups and abilities. From junior players taking their first steps into sport to competitive adult teams, the club provides vital opportunities for people in the local community to stay active and engaged. Many of these opportunities would not be possible without the tireless efforts of volunteer grounds staff.
Geoff Webb, CEO of the GMA, the UK’s leading membership body dedicated to supporting grounds staff, says: "The video is fun, but the message is serious. Grounds people play an integral role in sport and maintaining green spaces.
“Without the dedication of grounds people, grassroots and professional sport and outdoor community spaces alike would suffer. The quality of play, safety of athletes, and enjoyment of all depend on their hard work.
"We’re calling on grounds teams across the country to help spread the word about #GroundsWeek – whether by sharing the video or telling their stories. Download the toolkit on the GMA website and help highlight the vital work you do."
