Getting paving jointing right first time and avoiding annual repairs

For all types of paved surfaces on domestic patios, and driveways, around retail and other commercial premises, and all around the public domain, inadequate paving jointing is the primary cause for most of the problems with natural stone paving.

This includes the reasons for countless delays in jointing and repointing works to complete the paving, as well as for the subsequent premature breakdown and failure.

Most types of paving jointing have several critical application restrictions and limitations for their use on site, the most important is usually that the jointing must take place in dry conditions and with no rain in the forecast, even for wet-slurry applied cement-based materials. This restriction and limitation is therefore the reason for countless delays in finishing paving works, whilst waiting for dry weather conditions.

Failure to comply with these necessary limitations, usually due to time and cost pressure, is the root cause of the subsequent lack of durability and premature failure, and often after a very short period of just a year or two. As a result, all over the UK there is an abundance of premature paving joint breakdown taking place, with failed and failing paved surfaces, with all types of paving elements, including natural stone setts and slabs, concrete clocks and external porcelain tiles.

These areas of damage and deterioration can be seen in domestic patios and driveways, in the paving around retail & commercial developments, and in local authority owned paved areas in every town centre and market square. The first visible signs of breakdown are usually cracking, which is soon followed by breaking up of the joint materials, followed by water ingress and complete breakdown of the paved surfaces, especially in heavily trafficked areas, and those cleaned by jet washing or mechanical streetcleaning machines.

However, all these issues for both jointing and/or repointing, can be solved using the state-of-the-art in paving jointing and repointing - GftK vdw 850 plus, from NCCStreetscape, the global leaders in paving jointing technology.

GftK vdw 850 plus can be applied quickly and easily in wet weather, even in the pouring rain, with no worries about water in the joints, and no delays due to the weather. This allows owners and contractors to complete the job and then get the area open and in service on time and as scheduled.

GftK vdw 850 plus is very easy in application by modern wet-slurry techniques, not on your hands and knees, it has very high flow properties and is self-compacting into the joints, so there is no additional tooling or finishing required. Additionally, it is non-staining and unlike cement or ordinary resin products, there is no waiting to clean-off, with no ‘washboy’ or special equipment required, because there is no cement haze and no efflorescence.

GftK vdw 850 plus is fast curing and hardening, to a tough and durable material that resists heavy pedestrian traffic, including high heels, as well as to frequent vehicle traffic, plus it is fully resistant to de-icing salts in Winter, and frequent cleaning by high pressure jet-washing and mechanical street cleaning machines.
