The hugely popular Operator Challenge is set to return to PlantWorx in 2025, bringing even more energy and action to the UK’s largest working construction event.
Now taking place at Newark Showground, the Challenge will again be a major draw, with JCB confirmed as headline sponsor, celebrating its 80th anniversary with a full line-up of machines and an exclusive static display.
JCB will supply all equipment used in the competition, including compact excavators, the 145XR X Series, the latest 3CX, and the versatile Hydradig. Visitors will also have a chance to view JCB’s hydrogen-powered internal combustion engine, offering a glimpse into the future of alternative power on site.
The Challenge builds on the success of its debut at PlantWorx 2023, where hundreds of operators took part in skill-based games designed to test precision, control, and flair. The 2025 edition features eight timed challenges inspired by classic board games, plus two open-access head-to-head events for accredited operators keen to get involved.

Big names from the operator community will be back, including Amy Underwood (The Digger Girl), Lloyd Peckham (Bearded Excavation UK) and Conor Kelly (Conor the Digger Driver), with a much-anticipated rematch between Conor and Lloyd on the cards.
Daily prizes will be awarded, and an overall winner will be crowned based on the lowest combined time. Support comes from Astrak, Flannery Plant Hire, Collins Earthworks, Conquip, and Steelwrist, with more names to be announced.
Two dedicated JCB demo zones will also run alongside the competition, offering visitors a chance to try the kit for themselves in a more relaxed setting.
