GoLandscape, is an initiative from The British Association of Landscape Industries (BALI) to inspire new recruits and help combat a skills shortage within the industry.
It aims to show what it’s like to have a career in landscaping and has asked for support from the industry to achieve this.
Green-tech has risen to the challenge and eight of their team have committed and signed up to become trained GoLandscape Ambassadors.
The eight recruits are from various departments across Green-tech, highlighting the diverse range of careers available. George Barton, Richard Gill, Roger McGivern and Jordan Webster all work in the sales team, Alasdair Innes and Richard Wexham the specification team, whilst Georgia Gilbert is a key account manager for the wildflower team and Sarah Whitley works within the purchasing team.
Events are targeted at school, college leavers and military veterans to inspire more people to become involved or choose a career within the landscaping industry.
As part of their new role, the team will visit local schools and college to inspire the next generation into the landscape industry. George and Georgia have already attended a careers event at Askham Bryan College and some of the other Ambassadors have a visit planned to a secondary school in York.
Stephen Ensell, Education Officer for GoLandscape comments: “I am delighted that we received so much interest from the Green-tech team. The support of, not one, but eight Ambassadors, will be hugely beneficial. We need people to empower and develop the next generation of Landscape professionals. The initiative was set up for many reasons but chiefly to address the skills shortage we have in all parts of the industry. It remains a challenge to gain recognition in schools and colleges that we present a viable career option. The role of an Ambassador is a wonderful opportunity to engage with all kinds of people and stir up an interest in the world of landscaping.”
The Green-tech Ambassadors have received training and have been provided with the necessary resources and support to enable them to present and answer questions with groups of veterans, school pupils and college students.
For the campaign to grow BALI need the support of more GoLandscape Ambassadors who are already working within the industry and have the ability to show pupils, students, and career changers the virtues of working in the landscape industry.
