This driveway and terraces surrounding this stunning private residence in the Lake District were all designed and laid using Burlington Stone’s ‘Cumbrian Black’, tumbled natural stone setts.
The paving was all jointed and pointed in a single operation using GftK’s vdw 850 paving joint mortar from NCC Streetscape.
The GftK vdw 850 was selected because it is extremely durable and easily able to accommodate frequent traffic over the driveway, including a high percentage of 4X4’s and visiting delivery vehicles of up to 20 Tonnes, plus it is fully resistant to de-icing salts and freeze-thaw cycling in winter time.
Also important for the contractor, in this exposed location the jointing work had to be completed quickly and on schedule, without delays due to the cold, wet weather of the British Springtime.
The unique vdw 850 is easily ‘wet-slurry’ applied over pre-dampened paving, where it self-compacts into the joints and then the surfaces are simply rinsed with additional water and any residue brushed-off - It is not necessary to wait for a good weather forecast, or to allow areas to dry out before and after the pointing works, even in the rain.
No additional compacting is necessary and the job is done – clearly the best pointing system for one of the best natural stone paving systems for heavier duty applications on the market today, with proven long term performance and durability.
