Blakedown Landscapes has been appointed as Principal Contractor for the regeneration of Memorial Gardens in Kingston upon Thames, a major public-realm project that will enhance a much-loved historic town-centre space while respecting its role as a place of remembrance and reflection.
The Memorial Gardens are over 200 years old and form an important part of Kingston’s historic townscape. The project is being delivered by Kingston Council, in partnership with Kingston
First, with landscape design by Davies White Landscape Architects and LanPro Services, and has been developed following community engagement.
The regeneration will improve connectivity, accessibility and inclusivity across the site, with new and improved pathways, enhanced lighting, increased tree planting, biodiversity-led planting including species-rich lawns, and informal seating. The works include enhancement of the Grade II listed War Memorial and other historic features within the gardens, together with the introduction of low-level play elements, delivered as part of a scheme that supports both everyday use and quieter moments of reflection within a live town-centre environment.
The scheme is being delivered using sustainable construction approaches that prioritise durability, responsible material use and long-term performance within a historic setting.
The regenerated Memorial Gardens are scheduled for completion in late spring 2026.
